Mutungati, Kenya

The Mutungati coffee comes to us from smallholder farmers who are proud members of the Mutungati Farmers Cooperative Society (FCS). These farmers deliver their carefully cultivated coffees to the Mutungati Coffee Factory, which is situated in the Bahati region of Nakuru County in the Rift Valley of Kenya

The coffee grown in this region are of unparalleled flavour potential due to the high altitude at which they are grown, ranging from 1800m to 2200m. The soils in this area are incredibly diverse, ranging from volcanic grey loam to red volcanic, adding to the unique cup profiles.

Unlike the coffee farming history in the surrounding areas of Kenya's capital city, Nairobi, the history of coffee farming in Nakuru is quite distinct. Coffee farming was established much later, and while there is still ample room for growth, there are currently only nine washing stations in the entire county. Each FCS operating within the county manages only one washing station, making this coffee truly exclusive. However, some private estates are now entering the market with impressive coffee lots, adding to the region's diverse offerings.

Kenya is known for its contrasting landscapes, treasured wildlife, all-year-round sunshine and hospitable people. It's a country of outstanding biodiversity, from grand mountains and valleys to expanse rivers and parks. All these experiences can be captured in the coffee, as Kenya is world-renowned in the specialty market for its flavour profiles and processing methods that bring to life exciting qualities in the cup.
