Pomp & Circumstance at Regent Singapore's Tea Lounge

Posted by Stella Cochrane on

Regent Singapore, A Four Season Hotel, is taking hotel dining to a new level. Not only do they have a fantastic space to enjoy a relaxing cocktail on the second floor (Manhattan Bar) and delicious Italian restaurant, Basilico, but also their beautiful Tea Lounge plays host to a weekday afternoon tea which left us full to the brim but wanting for more.

Nestled on the far side of the foyer with soft grand piano music to help you ease away your afternoon, this place has shot to the top of our list of places to impress your friends and family with.

As soon as we sat down at our table, the impeccable service began with an offering of hot and cold drinks. Tea obviously takes centre stage here with the biggest variety of teas from oolong to black, green to fruit, they have something to suit everyone. If it's all a bit too much choice the knowledgable staff will be able to recommend something to you.

However, if you are like us and coffee lovers, they also serve CMCR's 22 Martin as espresso and Ardi Sidama as a pourover. For the latter, they wheel over their impressive brass edged trolley and allow you to enjoy the theatre of filter right at your table.

We also opted to try one of their coffee mocktails called 'Energizer' which has an impressive 60ml of coffee - this really is going to wake you up in the morning. It was deliciously creamy though with a hint of cinnamon, highly recommend but perhaps not last thing at night!

After this, our food was served. The standard set comes with a three tiers sandwiches, pastries and scones along with one of their innovative desserts. You can upgrade to the procecco or champagne sets for $40 or $60 more respectively - depending on what you have planned for the rest of your afternoon!

The second tier contained a tomato and smoked ham tartlet which where demolished in seconds by my friends and I, if we had had room for more at the end would definitely have come back for more of these little gems!

Lastly, the bottom tier had a selection of plain and currant scones with the usual accompaniments of cream, jam and, perhaps slightly unusual, lemon curd. We are scone lovers and do think it is difficult thing to find in Singapore but these ones didn't disintegrate under the pressure of the cream and had a nice taste of bicarb in them.

After all this, I have to say we were feeling pretty full but we knew the best was yet to come or at least it was time for a little bit more theatre! A key feature of the lounge is the live dessert station where if you feel inclined, you can leave your table and watch these magical creations come together. As their where four of us, we got one of each of the desserts on offer, The Chocolate Forest, The Golden Apple, Coco-Melon Symphony and Raspberry Souffle.

Once inside, it reveals its yuzu apple compote, yogurt foam, nut crumble and vanilla fromage sobert. It is a dish that lives up to it's looks and that is something that can be said for all these desserts, we all thought they were the star of the experience - each had our favourites and vowed to come back so we wouldn't have to share!

The atmosphere and decor of the tea lounge at the Regent Singapore are enough to bring us back for another afternoon session but add to that some delicious food and drinks and we think they've got us hooked. Get a bunch of friends together and head on down and see for yourself.

We wrapped up our afternoon with a refreshing Islay mocktail, of muddled fruits and soda water and of course a quick coffee - it wouldn't be complete without one!
