Coffee, Cake and Culture at Privé ACM

Posted by Stella Cochrane on

It has never been a better time to visit the new offering from the Privé Group at the Asian Civilisations Museum. With a vast open terrace sheltered under a sprawling tree over looking the water, can you think of a better location to while away an afternoon sipping on speciality coffee or something a little stronger?

If alfresco dining is not your cup of coffee then there is also the impeccably fitted out interior, styled with our tropical climate in mind it is a very breezy and open environment with clean white walls punctured with aquamarine. It makes for a relaxing and inviting environment to enjoy its all day brunch or dinner menu and they have even provided individual plug sockets at the indoor tables so any freelancers out there can enjoy the view whilst beavering away.

Now to the food, there is an emphasis on wholesome Western food with a couple of nods to the East with dishes like the seafood laksa and spicy prawn pasta. It has all the classic brunch dishes, think eggs bene, omelette your way and granola, as well as a super cool DIY sandwich bar for those looking for something a little more filling or as a take out. As it moves through the day to dinner there are offering to suit larger groups with sharing plates and mains such as burgers, red wine braised oxtail and pan-roasted seabass with caper butter sauce.

It is highly advisable to leave room for dessert as this is the star of the show here. If you approach the restaurant from the museum side you can’t help but notice all the mouth watering cakes and muffins on display in their cake cabinet – the s’mores cupcake is truly impressive! As is the sticky date pudding with butterscotch sauce and the rich dark chocolate cake with peanut butter filling.

They also have an excellent weekday tea time deal when ordering any coffee or tea you can get 50% off the sliced cake, a great incentive to go and try them all!

Along side all of this there is a well rounded alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks menu with local favourites such a kopi and, of course, CMCR coffee. If you find yourself in the area between 5 - 8pm daily check out the happy hour with discounts on wine, beer and spirits.

Recommendations:

Brunch

The ultimate signature breakfast with 2 eggs any style, chicken sausage, bacon, tomato, button mushrooms, rosti and toast. Or for something a bit lighter, try the mango chia seed pudding with yogurt, almond milk and coconut.

Lunch/Dinner

Try the pan-roasted seabass or signature Bad Ass BBQ burger for something a little more filling accompanied by the deliciously refreshing Provence rosé wine. Of course leave room for a dessert of sticky date pudding with the luscious butterscotch sauce.
